A Decisive Response to Terrorism
Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired a high-level security meeting in New Delhi, issuing a resolute directive to India’s armed forces: complete operational freedom to strike Pakistan and dismantle its terror networks. The decision follows the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 lives and was linked to Pakistan-based Lashkar-e-Taiba. Modi emphasized India’s “national resolve” to deliver a “befitting reply” to terrorism, signaling a potential escalation in the volatile India-Pakistan standoff.

Empowering the Military
Modi’s unprecedented mandate allows the Army, Air Force, and Navy to choose targets and timing without bureaucratic delays, a move reminiscent of the 2016 surgical strikes post-Uri attack. The meeting, attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and top military brass, reviewed intelligence pointing to Pakistan’s continued support for terror groups. Modi’s directive aims to neutralize threats preemptively, with operations already intensified along the Line of Control, where ceasefire violations have surged.

Diplomatic and Strategic Measures
Beyond military action, India has upped the ante diplomatically. The government suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, closed the Attari-Wagah border, and expelled Pakistani diplomats, accusing Islamabad of complicity in the Pahalgam attack. Modi has also briefed global leaders, including U.S. President Donald Trump, to garner support for India’s counter-terrorism stance. These steps underscore New Delhi’s intent to isolate Pakistan internationally while preparing for robust domestic action.

Global and Regional Implications
The bold call has heightened tensions, with Pakistan’s Information Minister Ataullah Tarar warning of a possible Indian strike within 36 hours. The international community, including the UN, has urged restraint, fearing a nuclear-armed conflict. As India mourns the Pahalgam victims and protests erupt in Kashmir, Modi’s resolve to crush terrorism places the region at a critical juncture, with the world watching anxiously for what comes next.
